How to export for Amazon KDP
This shows you how to export your book as a print-ready PDF that meets Amazon KDP's paperback requirements.
Before you start
- Your book must have completed pages.
- Choose your trim size during book creation — it determines the final PDF dimensions.
Steps

Open your book from My Books.

Click the Download button in the book editor toolbar.

Select KDP PDF.
- This inserts blank backing pages between content pages (required by KDP for single-sided printing).
- For picture books, you can also choose Classic Layout (text left, image right).

Wait 1-3 minutes for the PDF to generate.

The PDF opens in a new browser tab. Save it to your computer.

Upload it to KDP as your book's interior file.
What's included in the KDP PDF
- Front cover (first page)
- Front matter page (if added)
- Interior pages with blank backing pages
- Answer key section at the back (puzzle books only — answers displayed in a 4-up grid)
- Back cover (last page)
- All pages at 300 DPI with correct margins
Supported trim sizes

Common issues
KDP rejects the file Run the KDP Compliance Checker (shield icon in the editor toolbar) before exporting. It validates page count, margins, and color mode against KDP's requirements.
File is too large for upload KDP accepts up to 650MB. If your book exceeds this (unlikely for under 50 pages), reduce page count.
